In an effort to increase the employment of our veterans, incentives have been extended to help lower employers’ net payroll costs. As a result of revisions to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) employers that hire qualified veterans after November 21, 2011 and before December 31, 2012 under the Hire Heroes Act of 2011, P.L. 112-56 may be eligible to receive a credit up to $9,600.00. The Returning Hero and Wounded Warrior Credit allows for a tax benefit calculated at 40% of first year wages ranging from $6,000.00-$24,000.00 depending on how long the veteran has been unemployed.
