DCAA has more work to do

A report released by The Government Accountability Office (GAO) in December indicates that DCAA’s effort to reduce the backlog of incurred cost audits shows promise, but additional management attention is needed to close aging contracts.  Some details of DCAA’s initiative include raising the thresholdwhich triggers an automatic audit from $15 million to $250 million, revising the criteria used to determine proposals risk level, and significantly reducing the number of low risk audits that are randomly sampled.  These  details will help with audit backlog however the GAO indicated that DCAA has not yet developed the measures by which it will assess the effectiveness of these initiatives in reducing audit backlog and, at same time, protect the taxpayers’ interests.
