Active and Allow Charging

Costpoint projects are extremely powerful. However, the active and allow charging checkboxes can trip anyone up. The combination of the two authorizes Costpoint to book revenue, billing or transactions against a project. The key is using the following table:

Type

Project Level

  Active

   Allow Charging

Project – transactions Lowest Y Y
Active but reporting only     Top, upper Y N
Revenue and Billing only Upper Y N
Project inactivated Any N N

Note there is no active N and allow charging Y.

In summary, allow charging is “Y” only for projects necessary for transactions such as labor, vouchers and journal entries. Active is required for all projects that may have any type of activity to include transactions and billing.
